Ohio / oʊ ˈ h aɪ . oʊ / is a Midwestern state in the United States. The 34th largest state by area in the U.S., it is the 7th-most populous with nearly 11.5 million residents. The state's capital is Columbus. The Anglicized name 'Ohio' comes from the Iroquois word ohi-yo’, meaning 'great river'. The state, originally partitioned from the Northwest Territory, was admitted to the Union as the 17th state (and the first under the Northwest Ordinance) on March 1, 1803. Although there are conflicting narratives regarding the origin of the nickname, Ohio is historically known as the 'Buckeye State' (relating to the Ohio Buckeye Tree) and Ohioans are also known as 'Buckeyes.'

The government of Ohio is composed of the executive branch, led by the Governor; the legislative branch, which comprises the Ohio General Assembly; and the judicial branch, which is led by the Supreme Court. Currently, Ohio occupies 18 seats in the United States House of Representatives. Ohio is known for its status as both a swing state and a bellwether in national elections.

The population density of Ohio ranks ninth among all U.S. states. Nonetheless, Ohio currently has a negative net population migration, and an increasing rate of unemployment.

What are the labor laws in Ohio or other states relating to breaks?
Q. Is there a certain law in Ohio or other states that says you have to have a certain amount of breaks during a day? I know where I work in NY there are signs that say you HAVE to take your breaks (minor or not) and if you work a nine hour shift you must get a half hour and two 15's. Is it the same in ohio?
Asked by Liz N - Wed Apr 2 20:35:31 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. There is no Federal or state law which requires breaks for any period or work for adults. Minors are a different matter and regulated by specific state laws.

How can I find independent baseball teams in Ohio to tryout for?
Q. I want to tryout for a independent baseball team in Ohio. I can't find it online. Does anyone know anything about this? Or have any ideas?

A. Check in the sports section of your newspaper. I live in Youngstown and they have boxscores in the paper all the time. They also include schedules. You can go to one of the games to see if this si the type of baseball you want to play. Then after the game you can try to talk to one of the coaches. I have gone to independent games in my area. They are very laidback. Usually the players find out and join the league by word of mouth. Ex. one player is talking to another guy telling him to join the league. Its a little late to join right now. I just looked in the paper yesterday and saw that the season around here had already started. But, now is the time to start looking into teams that you may want to try out for next year.

How long does a person have to live in Ohio to become a resident and qualify for in-state tuition?
Q. I'm a Texan and a college graduate, who was looking at a Nursing program at the University of Cincinnati. I was just wondering, how long would I have to live in Ohio to apply for in-state residency and thus pay state tuition there?

A. Well, I hope my Maryland/Utah story helps you. I don't think the residency rules very too much from state to state. I live in Maryland but transfered to the University of Utah in the fall of 2008. In order to get residency, I had to stay over there during the summer of 2009 and be enrolled in classes because I had to live full-time in the state for at least a year, and they confirm you stayed over during the Summer by checking if you are enrolled in classes. This way I got in-state tuition by fall 2009. I also had to get a state ID (drivers license for those who have a drivers license from another state) and fill out some paperwork. Also, I couldn't let my mom put me as a dependent in her income taxes. I think the short answer to your… [cont.]
