How do you think Greg Norman wants to win the '09 Masters?
Q. After what happened at the British last year, Norman obviouslly still has some game left in him, I think with all his close calls and not winning at Augusta this could be a tournament that is still haunting him. Could you imagine if he could pull it out and win the Masters in April. I wonder if he is sharpening his game for what could be his one last round at Augusta National.

A. Let the height of the rectangle be h and the radius of the semicircle be r. Area of rectangle = (2r)*h = 2rh Area of semicircle = 1/2 pi r^2 So we want to maximize A = 2rh + 1/2 pi r^2 but there are two variables, so we'll first try to eliminate one of them. Note that perimeter = 2h + 2r + pi r = 31 so h = 31 - r - pi/2 r = 31 - (1 + pi/2)r Substitute that into our equation for area to get: A = 2r(31-(1+pi/2)r) + 1/2 pi r^2 = 62r - 2r^2 - 1/2 pi r^2 Take the derivative: dA/dr = 62 - 4r - pi r and set it equal to zero: 0 = 62 - 4r - pi r (4 + pi) r = 62 r = 62 / (4 + pi) Now that you have the radius, you can find the area A by using the equation A = 62r - 2r^2 - 1/2 pi r^2 [Note that this does get a different answer than the other… [cont.]

What is your opinion of the Norman knights?
Q. i was informed recently that there is plenty of Norman blood flowing through me from both my father and mothers side , but more my mother as my father had one Spanish parent . so im English but of French and Norman decent . i like to read about my European ancestry and ancestors the Normans and Vikings. any thoughts about the norman soldier / knight or Normans in general ?

A. the normans were everywhere in europe. many people are like you,as am I for that matter. I do enjoy reading about history and curious of my families past. I went on National geographic and did a test for me. https://genographic.natio nalgeographic.com/genogra phic/journey.html I submitted my DNA test and found out my family travels over 40,000 + years. interesting! I found out I my mother was right that we had Viking blood big time in our past. Especially like the crusades and did a large paper in college on it.
